Newcastle based artist Michelle Oakden explores the abstract world using bold, vibrant colours and organic shapes. She's originally an engineer by trade and loves to solve problems but the abstract creativity she indulges in through her artwork allows her to tap into another world. Creating art also helps bring a sense of balance into her life. Through her artwork Michelle feels the joy in creating something that's intriguing and beautiful, without needing it to achieve a specific engineering function! She works mainly with acrylic inks and metallics on watercolour paper but also creates acrylic abstracts on canvas.
Michelle's creative side is inspired by tangible things like the universe, the ocean, glorious pink/purple/violet/burnt orange sunsets... anything with colour really! Her artwork is truly an expression of being in the moment and capturing how that feels.
