Newcastle based artist Michelle Oakden embraces the abstract world using bold, vibrant colours and organic shapes. Working with acrylic inks and metallics on watercolour paper and acrylics on canvas, Michelle feels the joy in creating something that's intriguing and beautiful, telling a story through colour and form. Through the free flowing merging of colours and textures she creates vibrant artworks that exude joyfulness and sometimes a little chaos!!
Previously a natural scenery painter of landscapes, florals and pets, Michelle studied informally under art teachers as she moved around the country with her engineering career. It was an encounter with acrylic inks and further exploration of colour during her study through the International School of Colour and Design that set Michelle on her current path of abstract expression.
Michelle's creative side is inspired by anything with colour! Glorious sunsets, the ocean, nature in all its forms extending out into the cosmos. Her artwork is truly an expression of being in the moment and capturing how that feels.
